Scripture: Exodus 14:10-31
This week's readings follow God’s people into the Wilderness, having just escaped from their years of bondage in Egypt. God led Moses and the Israelites on a journey they did not expect or really ask for. It was a wilderness like none they had ever experienced before. Throughout all the hardships, God always provided for the Israelites. How might their experience inform our lives in this time of COVID-19 wilderness? How are we listening to God today? How is God providing for you?
Moses and the Israelites escaped Egypt and the bondage of slavery. However, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his soldiers and chariots after them. The people were frightened and trapped on the shore of the Red Sea as Pharaoh’s chariots got close. They felt powerless, but God showed them that even when we are powerless on earth, God is power-full! God gave Moses the power to part the sea and free the Israelites. We might feel powerless to the sickness (COVID-19) that seems to surround us in our communities while we stay safely at home. Remember, God is power-full and watches over us, leading us through “troubled waters” to safety.
