Scripture: Matthew 26:1-16
Matthew 26:7 tells us “Jesus sat at the table." (NRSV) Despite knowing that He is just two days away from being handed over to the people who will kill him, Jesus makes time to be truly present with those who would have been marginalized by society, to sit at the table with them. Not only do we find Jesus in the home of a leper, a person most would have stayed far away from, but he also allows a woman, (a woman!) to be near him and even anoint him. While some of the disciples are outraged at what they feel is the woman’s wastefulness, Jesus sees good service in what she has done.
Who are the people in our society that are marginalized by society that we may need to sit at the table with? Do they have stories or actions that may be initially outrageous to us but may actually be good service if we only took the time to look at them differently?
