Scripture: Matthew 22:11

All of this week’s lectionary passages should come with warning to proceed with caution. This verse comes from one of three sequential parables about membership in the kingdom of heaven. The author continues to treat religious leaders harshly. Because a thorough examination of this complicated parable of the wedding banquet is not possible in this short devotional format, let us focus on the wedding robe, a symbol of putting on or being clothed in Christ. Just as dressing up for a wedding shows respect for the host, “putting on� compassion, kindness, and mercy shows our commitment to Christ and his authority over our hearts and lives.
