Scripture: Joshua 2:15-24
God is always doing unexpected things, and using unexpected people to further God’s mission. In our text from Joshua, we continue with the story of Rahab. The world in this time was controlled by men - women were seen as little more than property. Yet, the Israelite success is ensured by a woman, and not just any woman, but a foreign prostitute! Rahab is by all accounts, an outsider, and still God chose to use her. Rahab heard about the Israelites, and believed that God had already given over the land to them. Her recognition of God’s power led her to protect the spies at great personal risk, helping to secure their first victory in Canaan.
Most of us have felt at times that we aren’t good enough, and the idea that God would use us for God’s ministry is hard to imagine. We must remember, though, that God loves all and seems to delight in scooping up those on the outside and making them the primary players in God’s work.
