Scripture: Matthew 21:23
Jesus subverts the institutional power resulting in tense interchanges with the religious leaders of the day. The religious leaders fear both the crowd and loss of power. This fear blocks their ability to recognize the divine power and teaching revealed in Jesus.
Fear of losing our power and privilege often blocks our ability to recognize Christ’s authority in our lives. This passage invites us to consider the ways that we might use our power and privilege to love our neighbors as Christ commands us. Jesus calls us to act out of love and strengthens us to move beyond our fear.
