Scripture: Psalm 31:24

Today we remember Óscar Romero, an archbishop from San Salvador who was martyred on this day in 1980. When he was twelve, he was apprenticed to a carpenter, but later heard a call from God and became a priest. He worked among the poor and was a witness for freedom and a sign of hope for the people. The psalm appointed for this day speaks to Bishop Romero’s assurance that God will be with us in difficult times. We must have courage and know that God is with us.
