Scripture: Matthew 21:9b
Listen to this song - what word or words remind you of Palm Sunday?
Here is some more information about this song by songwriter Ryan Flannigan:
"O Gracious Light, also known as the Phos Hilaron, is one of the oldest known Christian hymns, probably dating back to the 3rd or 4th Century. It is part of Evening Prayer in Anglican worship (found on page 118 in the Book of Common Prayer,) but can be used by anyone at any time, especially when lighting a candle. When Adam, Cameron and I got together to write a song, Adam showed us a melody line that had been floating around in his head for a couple years. I pulled out my Book of Common Prayer and suggested applying "O gracious light" to the melody line. The rest of the song came together rather quickly. We set the prayer verbatim, only adding the hook "O gracious light" at several points throughout. This repetition makes the song more accessible to congregations, and especially children. I often use this song to end our Liturgical Folk concerts, inviting my kids to come and sing it with us."
Perhaps this is a song you could play and sing together in the evenings throughout this week or when you gather around your home altar.
