Scripture: Jeremiah 31:27-34
Listen to the song "Forgiveness" by Matthew West.
After listening to the song, discuss these questions:
- The artist describes forgiveness as something that is very difficult to do, or even impossible. Do you agree? When has it been difficult to forgive someone?
- The refrain refers to one who is unlovable and unreachable, but we know that for God, no one is unlovable or unreachable. Why do you think the artist used these words?
- In our Scripture text from Jeremiah, God said, “...I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.” (Jer 31:34, NRSV). Thinking about this verse, and about what the song artist says that forgiveness can do for the one who forgives (The prisoner that it really frees is you), why do you think God chose to forgive the sins of God’s people?
